Preparation Phase

Listed above is our route we will take out of Madrid to Santiago de Compostela.  We will hike on average, 14 miles (Approx. 31km) per day.  This is most commonly known as the "Galicia" region.
http://www.galiciaguide.com/Galicia-index.html.  This region is known as the "green" Spain, where fishing, farming and agriculture rule.  It is extremely exciting to think we will walk through villages and farmland acclaimed as so beautiful.  Our timeframe is May 12th to 26th, 2017.  with work and other commitments, we only have two weeks, and we plan to spend a few days in Madrid to enjoy the city.  Bien Camino!

Why Are You Walking "The Way"?

So, numerous people have asked me:  "Why are you doing this?"
I can only answer for myself.  If my daughter chooses to share her thoughts, then that will be her personal choice.  In fact, I think "The Way" is just that.....personal.  I could say that I have longed to do this for decades, or that I have some deep rooted calling from God that has directed me to this journey.  However, none of those answers are true.

The truth is, I honestly don't know why.  I have never seen the Martin Sheen movie, "The Way".  I have no idea this even existed until a year and a half ago, when I searched "pilgrimages", just on a whim, and this came up.  The more I read, the more intrigued I became.  And there was just something about the thought of it and the history behind it that drew me to it.  Having recently been confirmed in the Catholic Church, I cannot say that my spirituality was not part of the decision.  I love my Faith.  However, that's not the sole reason.    I believe our lives are journeys, no matter who you are.  And I think that this is part of mine, whatever the reason.  I'm sure I will have more insight as the walk progresses.  We will see.
